Emissions

FCC Part 15

Part 15 governs unintentional radiators. Equipment intended for a residential environment meets the stricter Class B limits[src], which is the case for most of what goes into a consumer product and much of what goes onto a desk.

This is one of the reasons the Edge line carries a heavier regulatory load than the Rack line does, and it is worth designing for from the start rather than discovering at pre-compliance.

Safety

Testing laboratory listing

Equipment placed into a US workplace is expected to carry a listing from an OSHA-recognised Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory[src], typically against UL 62368-1[src] — the same unified standard that applies in Europe, which keeps one design serving both markets.

Thermal

ASHRAE TC9.9

The ASHRAE Technical Committee 9.9 thermal guidelines define the environmental classes data centre equipment is specified against[src]. Every configuration we issue states its class, alongside the operating range, heat rejection and airflow.

Devices

Cyber Trust Mark

The FCC’s US Cyber Trust Mark is a voluntary labelling program for consumer connected devices[src]. The underlying work — vulnerability handling, a bill of materials, a declared support lifetime — overlaps substantially with what the Cyber Resilience Act requires in Europe[src], so it is one body of work serving two markets.

Claims

FTC Green Guides

The Green Guides govern environmental marketing claims, and treat unqualified general environmental benefit claims as deceptive[src]. Together with the equivalent EU restriction[src] this sets the same discipline on both sides of the Atlantic: publish measurements with their conditions attached, not comparisons.

Siting

Interconnection

Large-load interconnection is where US data centre projects lose years. Procedures and thresholds are set per state and per utility rather than federally, so the question is always local: what will this site’s utility connect, and how long is the queue.

A deployment in the tens to low hundreds of kilowatts generally sits inside capacity a site already holds, which is a different conversation from a new large-load request. We work the specific tariff for the specific site rather than quoting a general figure.
